Grey heron, Area cinerea
Photographed from a hide, set up on a pond that had been stocked with fish to attract otters. The heron visited through-out the night and these images were taken with a flash set-up, that illuminated the heron and the surrounding surface of the pond, but left everything else black. This portrait shot of the heron was taken as it patiently waited for signs of its prey, presumably listening mor than watching for any movement.
