Jason Scherer, winner of the 2019 Nitto King of the Hammers race, tears through a slot canyon in Johnson Valley, Calif., Feb. 8, 2019, during the 12th annual King of the Hammers racing and rock-crawling event. The nine-day event, held on public lands adjacent to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, draws more than 50,000 competitors and spectators from around the world to Johnson Valley.
