Blue sky autumn tree portrait, to West 59th Street, Times Warner Centre reflecting waters The Pond, Central Park South, New York

Central Park, opened in 1857 on 843 acres ( square kilometres) of city owned land, was enlarged and re-landscaped in 1873. The picturesque Pond, at its southern end, occupies the site of a stream that once flowed into the East River from the west side of Manhattan Island. An elderly New York couple told me these were the best autumn colours seen in several years.
