Theawe-inspiring cataracts of theNiagara River areaniongthe most wonderful in the world. The Horsehoe Fall, the largest,in the direct course of the river, is throe thousand feet wide, witha perpendicular drop of one hundred and fifty-four feet. TheAmerican Fall and Central Fall each has a descent of about onehundred and sixty feet. The length of the Niagara River is but thirty miles fromitssource, which is the outlet of Lake Erie, until it discharges^itswaters into Lake Ontario. In this short distance the aggregatedescent of the river is threejhundred and thirty-four feet, thegreater part of which is confined to a distance of eight miles.
