Burpee s WORLD=BEATER Cabbage. First introduced by us last year, this new Cabbage originated near Hoboken, in Hudson Co., X. J., and is the Laegest Cabbage and the Hardest-heading Very Large Cabbage. The $ in cash prizes offered for the largest heads raised the past season was distributed as follows: $ to J. U. V. Young, Arroyo Grande, Cal., for two heads weighing respectively 53% lbs. and 49 lbs.; $ to J. Webb Matt, Lee, Oregon, for two heads weighing respectively 48 lbs. and 43 lbs.; $ to Thos. M. Hall, Lower Sumas, British Columbia, for a head weighing 38 lbs. It well deserves the name WORLD-BEATER, for never before have we seen any Cab- bage that produces such uni- formly large heads or any very large Cabbage in which the heads were so hard and | solid. We predict that in a :; few years the Marblehead 1 Mammoth will be discarded, for not only is the WO R LD - BEATER fully as large, if not larger, but also it is uni- H| formly true to type and sure to head hard,—"solid as a ; The large, broad heads are very thick through, slightly rounded at the top; fine- grained and tender,—more so than any other large Cabbage. Stalk short, foliage compact, dark green with a purplish- brown tinge. It is a rapid grower, and does not require special culture to develop. Per pkt. 10 cts.; 3 pkts. for 25 cts.; per oz. 45 cts.; \ lb $; per lb $ Please note that these images are extracted from scanned page images that may have been digitally enhanced for readability - coloration and appearance of these illustrations may not perfectly resemble the original W.
