Cytokinesis. Artwork showing the stage of cell division that involves the splitting of the cell cytoplasm between two daughter cells. This process is known as cytokinesis (also called cytodieresis), and is shown here for a plant (vegetal) cell. The sequence runs from left to right, showing the formation of a cell plate (green) between the two daughter cells. The other cell elements shown here include: the cell nuclei (white), the Golgi vesicles (red), the cell wall (outer layer), and the microtubles (yellow) making up the phragmoplast. This scaffold-like structure is where the cell plate forms that will eventually form the new cell wall between the new cells.
