They come from the little place Rio Hondo, lying on the Motagua opposite the mouth of the Copan river, and belong to the collection of Mr B. Castaneda in Zacapa. The first vessel (c, figure 26) has a height of cm. and a diameter at the bottom of cm. and at the mouth of 16 cm., and the thickness of the walls is 1 nmi. The second vessel (/, figure 27) is cm. high, cm. in diameter at the mouth, and the thickness of its walls is 5 mm. The figure and the hieroglvph tablet are repeated three times ^ m ^^ B. Fig. 27. Glyphs from Mnya codices and design on Guatemalan vessel. on the circumference of the vessel, but the drawing is badly injured l)v fire. The third vessel (a, |igure 28) is cm. high, the diameter measures at the bottom cm., at the mouth cm., and the walls are 6 mm. thick. The first of these three vessels is of pure Maya character. The figures, as well as the hieroglyphs, might have been copied directly from a Maya manuscript. The second is also unmistakably of Maya character, though the position of the figure is decidedly stifi'er. The third, however, has an especial character. The models of its figur(\s can only be found in Mexican or kindred manuscripts(Mixtec and Zapotec), and what hieroglyphs there are difi'er in every way from the familiar 7238—No. 28—05 8.
