Frank Nicholas Meyer (1875-1918), Dutch-US plant explorer. Meyer, born Frans Nicholaas Meijer in Amsterdam, emigrated to the USA in 1901. There, he worked at the Office of Seed and Plant Introduction of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). His role was to collect seeds and samples of economically useful plants from abroad. Meyer is here taking part in a plant collection trip in the mountains of China in 1908. Plants brought back by Meyer from his expeditions included apples, apricots, soybeans, gingko biloba and zoysia grass.
