STONE THERAPY

Model. Originally developed in California, Warm Stone Therapy is a Native American healing art using basalt stones found in the region's riverbeds. When heated, the stones penetrate deep into muscles, and are very sedating. This technique was inspired Native American's custom of rubbing their bodies with these volcanic stones thus transferring the stones' energy to their bones. Today, practitioners consider it a means of attaining physical and mental equilibrium. A variety of smooth-surfaced stones of various shapes and sizes are heated with hot water to approximately 50° C to begin a Stone Therapy session. After massaging with various aromatherapy oils, the masseur slowly rolls selected stones along the skin.
