Illustrated Armenia and the Armenians . rophet does this in connection with other namesas representatives of different nations. The third son ofGomer is Togarmah; the people descending from him arecall the house of Togarmah, Ezekiel xxvii., 14, where theyare named after Javan, Tubal and Meshech, as bringinghorses and mules to the mart of Tyre; and xxxviii., 6, where itappears after Gomer as a component of the army of Gog. Togarmah had a son named Haig or Haik, as the ances-tor of the Armenians, and they call themselves Haikian orHaigazian from him; and the land of Armenia is calledHaiasdan or the land of Haik. Togarmah, the people thus designated, are mentionedby the prophet Ezekiel. In the former passage as trading in thefairs of Tyre with horses and mules; in the latter, as about tocome with Gomer out at the north quarter against passage does much towards fixing a locality, but bothagree with the hypothesis, which has the support alike of ety-mology and of national tradition, that the people intended are.
