She stands facing thespectator, with figure turned slightly to the right andhead a little to the left, her blue eyes directed over herright shoulder. Her bright, florid face is framed inan elaborate white headdress, trimmed with blue andset off by brilliant yellow metal ornaments. Beyondher a stolid peasant is ambling away, smoking. Apink one and a white one with pink head are seatedside by side at the end of a perch, looking down withthe unblinking dignity of owls, and below them is seenthe red head of a Punch and Judy sort of a parrot,looking scornfully wicked. On neighboring perchesthree white birds with yellow crests appear, alert whileat rest, and all are seen against a background of palegreen of neutral quality.
