The lower rod bearings are 1% diameter by 2 3/16 in. in length. As a means of secur-ing compactness, the center line of the big end connectingrod bearing is offset from the center line of the rod, thuscompensating for the increased length due to water jacketspace between the cylinders. Thecrankshaft bearing dimensions are (front to rear) :2 3/16 in. diameter by 3 in. length; 2 7/32 in. by 2% in.,and 214 in. by 3 in. This is an exceptionally large shaftdiameter for the size of the engine and the shaft has suffi-cient rigidity to practically eliminate noticeable periodicvibration. The end thrust on the crankshaft is taken byflanges on the center main bearings are bronzebacked with babbitt lining, thewhite metal being doweled intothe bronze. There is an oilthrower ring on the rear mainbearing, working in a recess inthe bronze bushing and an aper-ture in the crankcase, allowingthe oil to drain back to the pan. _ The timing gears are of thehelical type, with % in. camshaft is an
