A boy wears a Chinelo mask during Carnival celebrations in Yautepec, Mexico, February 8, 2009. Groups of Chinelos dance the "Brinco del Chinelo," or the Chinelo hop during Carnival. Spanish colonizers brought the tradition of Carnival to the Americas, which is celebrated just before the Catholic Lenten season. The word Chinelo comes from the Nahuatl word “tzineloa” which means "hip shaking".
