Gill-rakers moderately long, 20 to 25 on lower part of anterior arch. Dorsal XV-X VI (rarely XVII) 11-13 ; last spine longest, f to a little over ^ length of head; longest soft rays f to 1 length of head. Anal III 9-11; third spine ^ to f length of head. â 7'ilapia andersonii. Type of T. Jlavomarginata (A. M. C). f. Petcoral 1 to Ij times as long as head, reaching vertical of origin of anal, or beyond. Ventral reaching anal or vent, or not quite so far. Caudal truncate or slightly emarginate. Caudal peduncle deeper than SâHi . 17â23 long. Scales cycloid, 29-33 j2ij^; lateral lines jyzxe- Dark brown, the scales with lighter centres, or edged with whitish ; head sometimes with large black spots; a black opercular spot; vertical fins brownish, purplish, or blackish, usually Avith round white spots; dorsal and anal edged with yellowish (red in life).
