Among the Zapotecs these priest pupils werecalled pixana, translated in Burgoas work by dedicados a losdioses . These were chosen, as Father Burgoa reports of the Zapo-tecos Serranos and Cajonos,c from the younger sons of caciques andpeople of rank, and were castrated when they were boys.
