Stern view of a sampan under repair at an open air, boat building yard, Ap Lei Chau, Aberdeen Harbour, Hong Kong, China

The fishing port of Aberdeen, on the south coast of Hong Kong Island, is a major attraction to both the local population and tourists. There are several boatyards along the shores of the harbour. Many service pleasure craft, but this one, on the shores of Ap Lei Chau, on the south side of the harbour, near its western end, repairs and builds traditional vessels. Ap Lei Chau ('Duck's Tongue Island') is a traditional centre for the building of junks.
