South elevation of the north wall of the nave of the church of St Oswald's Augustinian priory, Gloucester, which became the south wall of St Catherine's parish church. Anglo-Saxon priory founded c 900 AD, built with reused Roman materials by Aethered and Aethelfleda of Mercia to house some of the relics of St Oswald. Enlarged by the Normans and converted to an Augustinian priory in 1150. After Dissolution in 1536 the rounded Norman and pointed Early English arches of the north aisle arcade were blocked to form an exterior wall. The wall contains material from the Roman period through to recent times.
