When children areold enough to kick the bedclothes ofif at night, it is better 1owear warm clothing, such as a sweater, leggins, cap, and evenmittens, than to depend entirely on blankets. A very light weight shirt of wool, or cotton and wool, even CLOTHING FOR INFANTS 79 in summer, in the north, will be found to protect children fromthe sudden changes of the temperature and from becomingchilly after vigorous play. When children are out of doors in cold weather, not only isit necessary to keep the body warm, but the feet, legs, and handsmust also be kept warm.
