The artworks accompanied a lengthy description of the bones of an elephant which died near Dundee, Scotland, on 27 April 1706. This page is from volume 5 of the 1734 edition of 'The Philosophical Transactions', an abridged collection of papers from the Royal Society. The original papers were published by the surgeon Patrick Blair in volume 27 (1710-11) of 'Philosophical Transactions'.
