ZECH & MANN Wholesale Cut Flowers THAT WILL SHIP 30 East Randolph Street CHICAGO, ILLINOIS although since his return from France he has been with Thomas Fogarty, at Friedman's. Freres & Co. plan to do a general wholesale business in cut flowers. Word has come from Pasadena, Cal., that O. P. Bassett is quite ill with rheumatism. The veteran Chicago grower is now in his eighty-seventh year. As an instance of what Columbia will do when well handled, Poehlmann Bros. Co. is cutting 40-inch stems from plants benched in 1920. The employees of the A. L. Randall Co. are arranging a picnic, to be held at Reisig's grove at Lyons, July 24. The factories will be closed that day. The offices and supply department will close at noon and everyone will attend the outing except enough of the cut flower staff to take care of the Saturday after- noon orders. Wholesalers report that the American Railway Express is settling for c. o. d. shipments much more promptly than in the earlier days of government control. When the express service was consoli- dated the wholesalers had lengthy lists of c. o. d. shipments for which no re- turns had been made. It has taken a long time to wark these out, but nearly all of the old cases have been settled and the c. o. d. service is working much better than heretofore. The directors of the Chicago Flower Growers' Association held a meeting July 13 to close up the year's business prior to the annual meeting of the stock- holders, which will be held July 15. The association's year closed June 30 and it is current report that its sales for the twelve months passed three- quarters of a mill
