The failed "sea defences" at Happisburgh, Norfolk, UK

Over the years the local council have made attempts to prevent the sea at Happisburgh in Norfolk from eroding more and more of the cliffs. They have been fighting a losing battle and more and more of the cliffs have been collapsing over the years with more homes having been lost to the tides. The inhabitants have finally won a case to be reimbursed for a good percentage of their lost homes and those under threat. It is felt that a decent programme with the right amount of money to stop the erosion would be successful but with money in local councils being tight hopes are low.
