Ibis, Late Period–Ptolemaic Period, 600–30 , From Egypt; Probably from Middle Egypt, Hermopolis (Ashmunein; Khemenu), Wood, gesso, linen, paint, bronze, glass (eyes), L. 47 cm (18 1/2 in.); W. cm (6 in.); H. 33 cm (13 in.), The ibis was sacred to the god Thoth; this lifesize statue was probably made as a donation for an ibis cemetery at one of his temples; it is particularly close to examples known to be from the site of Hermopolis
