Golden orb-weaver spider, Nephila clavipes, female and much smaller male. The golden orb-weaver is the largest orb-weaving spider in the New World. The large spider is a female, her body is an inch long. The reddish male, in comparison is tiny. The extremely strong silk is used in industry and is being produced in goat's milk through genetic engineering.
