THE BAILEY BRIDGE - The final picture. The first 3-tonner an RAF vehicle passes over the completed bridge. Cooper of Hitchen, Herts, is seen on the top right of the picture as the vehicle passes over. This bridge and longest ever built on active service 179 ft. in length and of the 'double-treble' type with one underslung - a type which has never been used actively before - showed only a sag of 5 1/2 inches - a tribute to the work of the Royal Engineers and its designer.
