Limburgite is an igneous rock, named after its type locality, the \Limburg\", in the Kaiserstuhl area along the river Rhine in southwest Germany. In the field it is usually dark-brown and speckled with phenocrysts and tiny white vesicles of zeolite or calcite. It falls under a type of igneous rock known as nepheline basanite. This thin section micrograph accentuates the colourful crystals of titan-augite (many twinned) as well as the zeolites that stand out as white garlands, all embedded in the dark matrix. The picture is taken with polarized, transmitted light, which explains the lively colours of the augite crystals. Actual size is 27 x 44 mm"
