NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (June 8, 2016) -- Hull Technician 2nd Class Michael Modugno, assigned to Pre-Commissioning Unit Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), fights a simulated fire in the ship's pump room during a damage control drill while the ship is fast cruising. A fast cruise is a simulated underway, designed to prepare the crew for life at sea and get them in an operational mindset. The exercise is geared toward preparing Sailors for future deployments.
