A woman on the Chattri, an Indian war memorial on the Sussex Downs on Remembrance Day

Gloria Adiba pays her respects on Remembrance Sunday to the Sikh soldiers killed in World War One at the Chattri marble memorial built on the South Downs in East Sussex to honour Indian soldiers who fought in world wars. It stands on the site of a ghat or funeral pyre where 53 Hindus and Sikh soldiers were cremated during the first world war. Their ashes were scattered in the English Channel.
