Honeycomb Coral also called larger star coral, Favites abdita, from the Southern Red Sea, Marsa Alam, Egypt.


The stony corals have large polyps with irregular mouth openings. At night the polyp's tentacles come out to filter feed on zoo-plankton, which they transport in to the big mouth opening. This kind of corals are known to be more resilient to environmental changes than other coral species.
