U Walther-Schreiber-Platz underground railway station serves the U9 line and opened on January 29, 1971 in Friedenau, Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Berlin. It is on the border between the Friedenau locality in the Tempelhof-Schoeneberg Borough and the Steglitz locality in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf Borough. It wasbuilt between 1967 and 1969 and lies under Bundesallee which leads into Walther -Schreiber- Platz. The Schloss-Straßen-Center (SSC) and the Forum Steglitz are in the immediate vicinity. When it opened it was southern terminus of the Line 9 until September 1974. It was designed to be a V-shaped transfer point between today's U9 underground line and the planned U10 line, which was to fork at Walther-Schreiber-Platz. The U10 line and the platform of line U10 under Rheinstraße was, however, never built. The station was designed by Rainer G. Rümmler using the design of a typical Berlin underground station of the 1970s with a central platform nine meters wide and 110 meters long and a row of columns in the middle. In the original design, the walls were clad with blue panels and the supports with silver-grey aluminum. The two access floors are tiled in yellow and green. The access level in the south was remodeled during the construction of the Schloss-Straßen-Center in 2005 to give direct access to this shopping centre. A renovation of the station began in the summer of 2016. In December 2019, the redesign of the platform walls, ceilings and lighting was completed. The station name is spelt out in red letters on white tiles against a black background and the ceiling is red & white.
