Hatch,Sr. came to Menard county and in his youth heworked by the month as a farm hand. Heafterward entered land from the governmentand devoted his energies t its cultivation andimprovement until 1868, when he retired fromagricultural life and removed to Greenview,entering the linn of Hatch A Arnheim, generalmerchants, lie also conducted a lumber yardand milling business and erected many of thefirst houses of the city.
