On Sunday,March i, a test was made of this fender with a manikinfigure in the presence of officers of the railway company:ind members of the Board of Supervising Traction Engi-neers. The test was successful in every way, the manikinl)eing thrown to the qutside without being dragged orcarried under the wheels. The fender consists of a vertical plank, 12 in. x 2 in.,carried on stout brackets under the front platform with. 1;M> \ 01 SI1K.\R-GUARD FENDER IN CHICAGO a piece of rubber hose fastened along the bottom extends from the inside front corner of the car backat an angle of about 45 deg. to a point just outside andforward of the outside wheel of the front truck.
