Daffodils in the village of Thriplow,Herts for Britain's biggest Daffodil Festival.

Daffodils in the village of Thriplow,Herts, this week (April 13). Unfortunately Britain's biggest Daffodil Festival is held this weekend with the vast majority of the flowers dead. Thousands of daffodils grown for Britain's biggest Daffodil Festival this Saturday (April 16) have DIED because they flowered extra early after the warmest winter since records began. More than 10,000 people from all over the UK visit the tiny village of Thriplow in Hertfordshire each year to admire its hosts of golden daffodils. But this year disappointed visitors, who come by the coach load, will be greeted by lots of DEAD daffodils, instead of bright yellow blooms. The village plants scores of bulbs for its annual display, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2018, but this year many of the flowers opened extra early in February, following the warmest December since 1910. The warm winter meant that farmers had their earliest daffodil harvest for 40 years and lots of the Thriplow festival flowers are now sadly long past their best.
