Mention The Review when you write. as hairy vetch were secured, of which 207 were found to be either adulterated or misbranded, and publication is here made of the analyses of these samples, together with the names of the seeds- men by whom they were sold or offered for sale. "Hairy vetch seed was collected for the second time in 1912, when fifty- three per cent of the samples were found to be adulterated or misbranded, as compared with sixty-two per cent in the year 1911. Of these samples, seven- teen contained no seed of hairy vetch, but were composed of cultivated forms of spring vetch, while 190 samples con- sisted of mixtures of hairy vetch, spring vetch, and other ; The list of 113 firms from whom "adulterated or misbranded" hairy vetch was obtained is a notable- one in that it is made up largely of well known concerns of good repute in the seed trade. In some of the previous lists of the department, published under the same law, the names have been almost wholly unknown, not the names of the seed trade at all, but people who handle seeds as a side line.
