Grave Creek, a thriving post village, capital of Marshallcounty, Virginia, is pleasantly situated on the left bank of theOhio, twelve miles below Wheeling. It is divided into two dis-tinct villages, of nearly equal size, namely, Elizabethtown andMoundsville, the former of which is the seat of justice. Thename of the post office is Grave creek. The town contains aclassical academy, two steam flouring mills, and about 1200 in-habitants. Moundsville derives its name from the mammothmound, in the vicinity, one of the largest in the United States- Gravel Spring, a post office of Frederick county, Virginia.
