The Day After Christmas with fresh snow on the ground; the vertical and horizontals in this picture are what make it live.
This photo was taken as the light was dawning on the hill whose pastel colored soil shows through the gaps between snow-laden tree branches; it is virgin snow with no traces on its face, no footmarks save those behind me; it is as thrilling as birth and has an amazing energy in it, the snow having fallen during the night of Christmas Day! It is as though the snow were timed to coincide with the wishes of the children who celebrate the birth of their illustrious fellow for whom all Christians set the day aside. It is a wonderful scene; a privilege to photograph and see.
