Tewkesbury Abbey viewed from the south east, Gloucestershire, England
Abbey founded in 1087 by Robert FitzHamon. Building of the present Abbey commence in 1102. The Abbey is on the southern edge of the old town and dominates the skyline with its long nave and large Romanesque tower. Tewkesbury Abbey is famous for its medieval staines glass windows in its seven quire windows. It also posses a fine collection of Victorian stained glass windows. The Abbey boasts the largest Norman church tower in existence measuring 14 metres square and 45 metres high In 1539 the monastery was dissolved and Henry VIII sold the bells to the parish. The current bells were cast by John Taylor & Co in 1962.
