Francis Xavier Dercum (1856â1931), American physician and neurologist. As well as having an interest in histology, microbiology, physiology and natural history, Dercum was a renowned neurologist and neuropathologist. He first described adiposis dolorosa, also known as Decrum's disease, a disease that causes the accumulation of painful areas of fat.
