The keen and invigorating mountain air, the sparklingsunshine and the sight of snow-clad mountains constantly temptone to make golf the real business of life. Denver has a large coterie of enthusiasts and fine no point in the State, however, is the game more popularthan at Colorado Springs. At this famous resort are two of thebest courses in the West. The Town and Gown Golf Clubhas an excellent and very attractive eighteen-hole Varden pronounced it the sportiest course I ever playedover. It is over six thousand yards long, on the eastern edge. On the Green of the city, within easy access of town by trolley car, wheelor carriage. The course covers a tract of 100 acres of sandyloam, overgrown with short buffalo grass. There is no lack ofhazards. They consist of arroyos, irrigating ditches, bunkersand sand traps, so placed that accurate play is at a topped ball stops in rough ground, while a slice or a pull landsit out of bounds or in a trap. As in all dry climates, the puttinggreens are of sand. They are true and accurate after a playerhas gauged their speed. The clubhouse is of the bungalow type, extremely attractiveand up-to-date. The older club of Colorado Springs, where the game isplayed at a cloud height, is known as the Cheyenne MountainCountry Club, located at Broadmoor, and easily reached by atwenty-minute trolley ride. The course is laid out at the footof Cheyenne Mountain and consists of eighteen holes. Grovesof scrub oaks, creeks and draws furnish natural hazards
