The occipital convo-lutions are obliquelyplaced, and separated bysecondary fissures, whichvary much in extent anddepth. The temporo-sphe-noidal convolutions arehorizontally disposed andseparated by deep andwell-marked fissures, oneof which (that below thefirst temporo-sphenoidalconvolution) is called theparallel fissure. The orhikd convolutions are three in number. Theyrest on the orbital plates of the frontal and on the lesserwings of the sphenoid. Tliey are designated the ante-rior, posterior, and inner, the latter lying parallel withthe commencement of the marginal convolution. These. Byseparating the frontal and temporo-sphenoidal lobes, theisland of Reil is exposed. It consists of a cluster offive or six convolutions projecting from the bottom of thefissure of Sylvius. The inner surface of the cerebral hemisphere is flatand presents five principal convolutions. First, themarginal convolution skirts the free border of the longi
