Neisseria gonorrhoeae exhibits an affinity for the genital and urethral mucosa. Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease leading to acute urethritis (bleeding) in men and infections of the cervix, the endometrium and the urterine tubes (salpingitis) in women. Neisseria gonorrhoeae are Gram-negative small round germs (cocci) generally observed in pairs. SEM.
