Sprinkle with water and keep warm by the stoveor in a hotbed or greenhouse. The corn will all sproutin about five days. By this method of sprouting theseed is tested, the danger of rotting is reduced toa minimum and the harvest time is also hastenedseveral days. After sprouting, the corn must be at once plantedin the open ground. Another way is to plant five orsix kernels in a five-inch pot and allow three plants togrow. The main crop should not be planteduntil all danger of frost is over, which will vary indifferent latitudes. For the family garden, several varieties shouldbe planted, beginning- with the extra early and choosinga selection which will mature one after the other, andin this way keep the table supplied from late Julyuntil well into October.
