Rodent diversity parame- ters were coded by addition of the constant 101 to enable calculation of the exponen- tial equations. CONCLUSIONS Livestock use in the study area has resulted in a marked decreased relative abundance of perennial herbs, particularly bunchgrasses, in all habitat types analyzed. This has had differential effects on plant and animal community struc- ture, however, and these effects appear to be predictable on the basis of soil moisture relationships. The most xeric habitat types are potentially dominated by shrubs, with lesser amounts of grasses and forbs. Reduction of herbaceous vegetation by livestock.
