Simple Flat Pelves.—In flat pelves, on llie other hand, themechanical conditions are such that, if the transverse space beample, the after-coming head adapts itself to the brim moreeasily, -and can be extracted by much less force, than is requiredfor the delivery of the fore-coming head. In a simple flat pelvisthe head in any case enters transverse and somewhat extended, and the bony resistance of the pelvic brim is exerted mainly uponthe sides of the head. AVhen in such a case the after-cominghead is brought to the brim, the narrow base of the skull passesthe conjugate with ease; and when the wider bitemporal andbiparietal diameters have engaged the head becomes elongated.
