Napier was appomted governor. The new governor, however, was not to remain in undisturbed pos-session for any length of time. An army of Beloochees, 20,000 strong,under the command of Meer Shere Mahmoud, had taken up a stroncrposition on the river FuUalie, near the spot where the Ameers of Scindewere so signally defeated, and Sir C. J. Napier, on ascertaining the fact,resolved to attack them forthwith. On the 24th of March he movedfrom Hyderabad at the head of 5000 men.
