The Political Cheap Jack a wood carving above a door on an old building in Beverley


The Political Cheap Jack cartoon appeared in the magazine Punch in 1847. it depicts Disraeli speaking from the back of a caravan. The article questions Disraeli’s sincerity. The wood carving copying the cartoon is believed to have been carved shortly after the cartoon was published in 1847. There are other woodcarvings above the doors of some of the old buildings in Beverley from around this time.
