This building, designed by was opened in 1907 to house the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales. The road it stands on is called Old Bailey, and this building has acquired that name too. The building is surmounted by the gilded statue of lady Justice holding scales and a sword. The slogan over the doorway reads: "Defend the children of the poor and punish the wrongdoer."
