The Audubon Center in the lullwater section of the Prospect Park Lake in Brooklyn in New York
The Audubon Center in the lullwater section of the Prospect Park Lake in Brooklyn in New York is seen on Saturday, July 14, 2012. The surface of the lake has been covered with the plant Azolla caroliniana, a native species, which would normally die during the cold winter. However, this past winter was not harsh enough to kill the plant hence it is flourishing this summer. (© Richard B. Levine)
