Pkt. 5c, oz. 10c, YA\b. 20c, lb. 50c. SUGAR BEETS. The Sugar Beets, while used principally in the manufacture of sugar, are very valuable for stock feeding and most excellent for table use. These, as well as the Mangel Wurzels, should be sown in April or May in drills 2J/2 feet apart, and afterwards thin out to stand 8 to 12 inches apart in the row; keep well cultivated until the roots begin to form, then discontinue it, as late cultivation retards the development of sugar. One ounce will sow a drill 50 feet in length; 6 to 8 pounds are required per acre. ' Klein Wanzleben—An excellent sort for sugar mak- ^ ing, especially for the experimenter. Eighteen tons of sugar have been made from 100 tons of this beet. It grows a little larger than Vilmorin's.
