In the Naini Tal Tarai, for instance, there exists a largeweaver bird or baya, the Ploceus megarhijnchus of Hume, ofwhich very few specimens have ever been obtained; yet this isthe brightest-coloured as well as the largest of the Indian bayas, the cock in breeding-dress being nearly all yellow, on the throatand belly as well as the breast and cap. This may be a decliningform ; but against the theory of imminent extinction in the caseof the mountain quail, and in favour of that of migration, maybe set the dates of the latter birds occurrence, which are almostall in the winter months. Thus it has occurred near Mussooriein November, 1865, and close to Naini Tal in December, November, 1867, however, a number appeared at Jerepani,.
