This is a massive cat and the biggest of the African carnivores. They are pale tawny to sandy brown in color with white under bellies. The Kalahari lion, panthera leo, of the Kalahari are generally in excellent and pristine condition. They are well adapted to the semi desert conditions and if necessary can in fact survive without water. In this sort of terrain the male can hold a territory of several hundred square KM's
